Dear Bible Reader,

Please find the Cornerstone Bible Reading Plan that provides five Bible readings per week for the 3rd quarter of 2019 (July-September) available for download here.

You will notice that the reading plan will guide you through the 12 Minor Prophets of the Old Testament, as Cornerstone Church will begin a Sermon Series through Amos in mid-September. Our hope is for this reading plan to familiarize you with the Minor Prophets so that you gain as much as possible from our time in Amos.

As this portion of Scripture is less-traveled, please utilize at least one of the following resources to assist you:

  • A one-paragraph introduction to each book that you can read each day before starting a new prophet, available for free here.

  • A more complete introduction to each book (of the entire Bible) to read before starting each prophet, available for purchase here.

  • An interactive study of the Minor Prophets, available in two volumes here and here.

  • A good study bible which provides introductions to each book of the Bible and will help you in a verse-by-verse manner, available here.

We will have a copy of each of these resources (except the free one-paragraph introduction) in our café available for purchase at a discount during the month of July.

For now, here are two simple thoughts to help you read the minor prophets well:

  1. Please remember that the writing of the minor prophets is poetry. While the Minor Prophets do not contain rhyming patterns or a particular meter, their messages utilize:

    • Parallelism – repeating the same basic idea in two different lines to teach a single truth.

    • Imagery – communicating truth to affect the emotions using comparisons (through tools like simile & metaphor)

  2. Please remember that the minor prophets are a lot like police officers, as they enforce God’s Law in a particular situation with messages directly from God

As you read, please know that although I am no expert on the Minor Prophets, I will be willing to assist you in any way that I can!

May God richly bless you!
